In 2020, the new Boeing 777 will come into service and allow travellers to fly direct from London to Sydney. Until then though, travellers wanting to explore South East Asia or Australasia from Europe will need to partake in a necessary evil: the dreaded layover.
But at The World in a Weekend we believe that the journey should be as fun as the destination so instead of booking the flight with the shortest layover, we like to pick the flight with the longest layover and get out and about to enjoy an amazing extra destination.
We’re aiming to do editions for Istanbul, Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok in the next year but to kick things off we’ve travelled to Abu Dhabi and sampled the best options it has to offer to make your layover the highlight of your journey.
Without further ado, here are our highlights and suggestions for your Ultimate Layover Abu Dhabi Edition:
- Best place to relax: Saadiyat Beach Club
- Best cultural highlight: The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
- Best way to see the city: Seawings Seaplane tours
- Best quick stop hotel: Shangri La Hotel
The Blue Marlin Club: Sadly the club was closed for the season during our research trip but we were huge fans of the brands’ Ibiza club which you can read about in our Ibiza long weekend review here.
Next up …Dubai!
We’ll be travelling to Dubai later this month to the joys and delights of Dubai for a good friend’s “babymoon break” (yes that’s a real thing!) and will be bringing you another edition of Ultimate Layovers as well as finding the best options for your babymoon break. If you have suggestions or are a business based on Dubai which would like to be reviewed we would love to hear from you. Please contact us at email@example.com
