The Pennines

The view accross the Pennines

Sometimes you don’t have to journey too far for an adventure.

Last weekend we took a road trip through The Pennines, the mountain range that divides the North West of England from Yorkshire and the North East. This area is widely regarded as one of the most scenic place in the United Kingdom, it certainly didn’t disappoint.

We didn’t have a plan of where to go or what to see, just to explore and spend some time with nature. We started in the village of Wearhead in County Durham and made our way back towards Leeds in West Yorkshire.

The quiet stillness of the early morning sun afforded us some truly breath-taking views, and the ethereal light made everything seem like a magical secret.

I love being alone in a place as you can really feel and appreciate it for what it is, instead of trying to constantly avoid other people or things.

It took us a lot longer to get anywhere since we stopped pretty much every mile. There was just so much to explore.

We made a quick stop off at Barnard Castle then decided to have breakfast at Cross Lanes Organic Farm at Scotch Corner.

Sitting amongst the flowers and green house in the sun was the perfect end to our mini road trip.

  1. Hey guys – love this post! The lighting in your photographs is just magical and perfectly captures the spirit of the English countryside. Love it. We have a series called Doorstep Adventures over on our blog so can definitely relate to the idea that adventures can be found closer to home than you think :). Your blog’s looking great – love the logo! Looking forward to following along. You’ve got yourselves a new fan!

This post makes me nostalgic for England! I spent 9 years in Sheffield, and went hiking in the peak District all the time, as well as heading up to the Pennines for weekend trips. it’s great to see that beautiful area of the country on a travel blog, as so many tourists barely leave London!

  3. I call these microadventures- learned that from another blogger- http://trailtopeak.com/
When I can’t travel far I still need adventure so it is perfect to explore locally! Great way to roar local!
