Abu Dhabi Highlights: Shangri-la Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi

Our favourite Abu Dhabi hotel was definitely the stunning and sophisticated Shangri-la Hotel Qaryat Al Beri.

The Shangri-La Hotel is a five star hotel which provides everything you would expect from a five star hotel: large and beautifully furnished en-suite rooms, every amenity and service available and provided by a friendly and professional staff. It boasts 6 restaurants, a spa and private health club, free shuttles to the local shopping centres and its own private beach. (Although this is almost the standard for high end hotels in Abu Dhabi). Like it’s sister city Dubai, Abu Dhabi is heavily investing in the tourism industry and facilities and high end hotels, attractions, beach clubs and are opening all the time.

So what puts the Shangri-La our number 1 over everyone else? Well, here are a few things that I thought made it the clear choice:

  1. The view: The hotel is on the seafront looking straight across to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, a must see for visitors to Abu Dhabi. The hotel has amazing views of the mosque at sunrise and sunset. It’s an added bonus that no other hotel can really compete with.

  1. Breakfast: As experienced globetrotters, we’ve had A LOT of hotel breakfasts. So it really says something when a hotel can stun and surprise you with their breakfast wizardry; anything you want is yours. They also had a cute drinks cart with freshly squeezed/pressed fruit mixes that they brought to your table. This was one of the best breakfast experiences I have ever had. Even if you aren’t staying at the hotel it is still possible to dine on your own or join hotel guests, meaning you still get the great sunrise view of the mosque as well as being able to use the hotels facilities including the private beach.

  1. Staff: During my staff I had several moments where the staff went above and beyond to make me welcome and comfortable and made we feel at home. They had a personal touch, remembering all my preferences when ordering and were very considerate of me as a single woman travelling alone and offered lots of advice. As with anything in life, it is the people that make events and situations special and the staff at the Shangri-La definitely made my stay special.

BONUS TIP: If you have an AVIOS frequent flyer account then book the hotel through the AVIOS eStore. By logging into AVIOS and then booking via Hotels.com you’ll get 8 AVIOS points (or miles) for every £1 you spend. If booked via the Lloyds Avios rewards card you’ll get an additional 3 points for every £1 you spend. Whilst rooms at the Shangri-La start at £220 a night, you’ll be earning approximately 2500 miles for every night of your stay. A great bonus on top of great stay.
